Live. Empower. Affect. Dare.
Drew Dudley: Everyday Leadership at TedxToronto on Youtube
Leadership is simple.
Leadership is about having a voice and taking action. It is using your power to influence people in positive ways.
Anyone can be a leader.
We don’t realize it because our attention is often focused on examples of popular leaders. On the contrary, leadership is not about having a special title. Anyone can take the role as a supportive or directive individual. There are some amazing individuals humbly leading and making small actions that cause a significant impact. If we can shift our thinking towards everyday leadership, then we can expect that everyday is an opportunity to demonstrate leadership.
Live as an example.
Empower others.
Affect change.
Dare to dream.
How do you define leadership? What are the qualities possessed by people that you admire?
I very much enjoyed the TEDx talk on leadership and how he views leadership. When you realize that you have or you can benefit someone else is a really good feeling. The greatest thing about being a leader is knowing that you have a chance to make a difference. You lead the way for others and try to do things for the greater good. I feel that my definition of leadership is well defined in the article already. ” Leadership is about having a voice and taking action. It is using your power to influence people in positive ways”. We should use our voices to create a positive impact rather than dispute or anything negative.
The TEDx was very inspiring and made realize what it truly means to be a leader. he’s views and execution made me realize that the being is knowing that you can make a difference. You got to follow your dreams and never give up on yourself if you want to make change. Now a days we have role models that lead in negative ways, but TEDx Talk taught me that leadership is about having the power to influence and motivate in the positive ways. Im tired of seeing people follow a bully just out of fear, we should be following the ones that try to motivate you not destroy you.
Hey Kyle, I agree that perseverance is key and that we need to start standing up to popularized negative actions. I think political leaders are a good example of being both a positive and negative leader but it works in our favour because we get to vote on who to lead us and that can be a big decision but we have to make positive choices that not only benefit ourselves but everyone else.
Usually the connotation to leadership is standing in front of a big group and being responsible for guiding and teaching every single one of them. Truth is, I define leadership as any act of inspiration. It doesn’t matter the number of people you are able to reach out to, being a leader can involve offering a compliment or holding the door for someone, as these small acts can leave an impact, even if it goes unnoticeable by yourself! I think a lot of people doubt their ability to lead because they don’t think they have what it takes to be a strong leader but if you just look a little closer, I’m sure that there are small ways you’ve been a good example of a leader to others. I definitely agree with the line that says, “Anyone can take the role as a supportive or directive individual”.
I admire people who aren’t afraid to stand up for the good that they believe in, even when being persecuted by others. This pertains specifically to one of my favourite artists at the moment, Kanye West. His latest album, The Life of Pablo, is centred around his spiritual beliefs, he calls it a gospel album, something that most artists shy away from. I respect the way he uses his voice to speak out on the topic, even on older tracks, such as Jesus Walks; “They say you can rap about anything except for Jesus,
That means guns, sex, lies, video tapes
But if I talk about God my record won’t get played?” He inspires me and I think a lot of people disregard how awesome Kanye actually is.
I also want to know who inspires you and any words of wisdom you live by?
I watched the TED talk and I very much loved the story of inspiring someone by doing something as little as giving her a lollipop in a funny situation. It showed how much people can influence others and their decisions in a positive way. Going off of the positive influence, I define leadership as having a sense of direction, being determined or simply doing good deeds for others. having a set goal and being determined to succeed in such goal, shows qualities of a strong leader. As a community we all should feed off of each others positive impacts as well as helping each other that shows true characteristics of leadership.
