Digital Footprint: 3 Reasons To Blog
You can take more than just selfies.
You are part of a generation where instant messaging and wifi access is innate to you. You live in a technology-driven, globalized culture. You can pay bills, watch videos, track your health, book your vacation, order tickets and translate a language literally from your finger tips. Working and connecting with people in the modern world requires literacy, texting and social networking skills. Your education system should support you, the digital native.
The image above is a collection of students ideas from MSAC on the Future of Ontario’s Education System. Technology, safe spaces and creativity are themes depicted in the collage. Blogging is a platform that integrates these concepts. Here is a list of reasons to blog.
1. You are a 21st century learner.
Blogging is about reading, reflecting and responding in a digital format. Blogging can help you apply those essential media skills and share their work to a wide, authentic audience. Generation Zers can learn to embed code, upload content and experiment with applications such as SoundCloud and YouTube.
2. Your student voice matters.
Blogging allows you to curate your ideas and share what you are passionate about in a creative way. The blogging community also gives you an opportunity to connect globally and learn about the experiences of others.
3. You can manage your digital citizenship.
Blogging is a chance to develop a positive digital footprint. Your online personality is created as you surf online, post information, and through whatever people post about you. Prospective schools, employers and friends may be able to view your past comments and photos. Practice safe internet use and promote your interests and skills online.
What are some other reasons to blog?
I completely agree that blogging online is a good way to express your personal voice and thoughts. We live in a world that revolves around technology. But the internet is more than just Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook and other media sites. And believe me, you can post more than just pictures of yourself or you trip to Mexico.
Along with being safe while blogging online and remembering not to post you exact location, you can post about things that will catch the eye of the people who will read it.
You can blog about things that matter in the world, or in your neighborhood. Social issues or things that concern your area to raise awareness and see how other people feel about that issue. You can also be a “happy blogger” and give your feed a positive vibe. Post funny videos or stories that will give your readers or viewers a laugh, or post inspirational quotes to keep them motivated throughout the day. You can also blog about what you are doing to give others ideas on what they should do. For example if you write about going somewhere fun, and someone comes across it, that can inspire them to get up and go to that place or go do that thing.
With whatever you choose to blog about be cautious about who is reading it. It should not offend anyone or have a negative vibe towards anyone.
As a 21 century learner, it is crucial for us as students to have access to the internet and to be able to use the necessary tools to get work done. In my personal defense, wifi is what i rely on to get my work or studying done, never mind just opening up the books, the only book i open is my MacBook Pro. Using the internet is very easy to surf but also easy to get caught up in when it comes to danger, your digital footprint NEVER can be erased from the internet, it’s always there, that’s why it’s important to stay safe and always follow the rules that you were taught as children on the internet.
Some other reasons to blog is to build social skills and also articulate your ideas of creativity with your peers, gives you a chance to share ideas with others through interaction within comments and posts. Blogging can also help with sharing your passions and desires online and letting others comment their opinion.
What are some topics you would want to blog about?
these are some very great points. especially when you said that our digital footprint can never be erased.
Some of the topics that I would want to blog about is youth issues and events that go on within the school.
There are many interesting topics to blog about, however it is all based on personal preference. For example, I would choose to blog about sports, such as soccer or basketball.
The world as we know it, is becoming more technological every year. It is important for our generation to learn how to work with the flow of the internet, because it is a fast paced world and the internet is always changing. Putting out a positive digital footprint is important, because its helpful staying up with how the world is changing, but blogging can help you and others around you. If you are blogging about a topic, and teaching others around you, you are also teaching yourself about it better at the same time. Because talking about it, is repeating it in your own head. Plus, the inner satisfaction of informing and teaching people around you about a topic. Blogging and using technology to interact can expand your world. You are now able to interact and connect online, all across the world. Now your span of interaction is world wide, not just in your local community.
very good article I’ve learned something i wasn’t aware of in the past. this article opened up my eyes.
Personally, topics I would want to post about would be related to sports, such as soccer or basketball. I would also want to blog about certain things happening in our school, such as bullying and how to prevent it.
I 100% agree with this article because when you are blogging, you can share ideas and write whatever you want so that other people can see it. I also agree with this article because it is a great way for you to learn about other people and their experiences.
Some other reasons to blog are if you have a good recipe to make food, you can share it on your blog so that other people can look at it, make it, and enjoy it! Another reason to blog is if you want to write reviews about something. An example is if you go to a restaurant and someone is wondering how the food is, you can write a blog to tell people if you like the food or not and what the restaurant could improve on.
I strongly agree with this article because when sharing a blog you can talk about your ideas and your interests. Another reason to blog is to share instructions and ideas of how to make or improve something. For example recipes and instruction manual.
Also blogging can be used to talk about your daily activities. This can inspire readers to try something new. Another reason to blog is to give your opinion about places you’ve been to and/or things you’ve done. For example you could blog about a restaurant you went to and if you liked it. Another reason to blog is to share advice with your readers that has helped you in life.
Blogging is a creative and efficient way to put opinions, news and just about anything out there for others to access.
I think a good reason to blog is so that you can learn new things. It’s about letting others be apart of what you see and think about and teaching or sharing experiences, always in the opportunity to exit a blog post with new information.
Blogging can also raise your confidence in a way. When you dare to share things online, expose a bit of who you are as a person, it becomes easier to contribute verbally in the real world as well. You may realize that you are more comfortable discussing subjects with your family, friends and teachers.
A blog can also be a unique part of your resume. If you’ve got a well developed, constantly updated blog, it can make your resume stand out from others and convey your sense of creativity and thinking or literacy skills that cannot otherwise be shown on the resume itself.
All in all, no matter your circumstance, I agree that having a blog is always beneficial in some way or another.
I 100% agree with your comment…what would you blog about wynette?
Blogging does give students a voice. It allows students to open up and share their thoughts and ideas with others. Students get the chance to express themselves without being silenced. For me, blogging is giving me the chance to be creative and open up to the community. Other reasons students should blog are its a great way for students to learn from each other. By blogging you read and learn things from others that you didn’t know before. You could learn something new everyday. Also blogging helps students to look at different opinions and ideas. You as a student become more open to considering others opinions respectively. Blogging helps you determine whats real and whats not. Sometimes the things you read online might not be true or might be bias. As a student that gives you the skills to sort of read through text carefully and research the information to see if it is accurate or not.
Could blogging be misleading?
Peyton, blogging is an opportunity to share your voice. This platform can be misleading because the content is not necessarily regulated by a standard. It is up to bloggers to maintain ethical standards to review the facts, appropriately use copyright material, present all sides of an issue and keep information up to date.
I agree with you Peyton as well as Ms Layne as blogging is a way to express ones self. although there are some precautions to always keep in mind about safe blogging, usually blogging tends to be a gateway for students to express their voice. i also fin d that blogging helps with ones confidence in public speaking as students share their thoughts, their experiences and their goals or likes with dislikes. blogs can be a range of topics or a place for students to blog about what they aspire to be. Blogging in another way of increasing ones experience and practice in writing articles, proof reading or analyzing subjects or texts. These skills all improve for future assessments or assignments in courses in school such as English literature or media studies. in conclusion blogging needs to be respected in its ways of freedom of speech as it lets students express themselves in a safe and respectful environment. The skills of blogging can go a long way in a variety of courses or future career opportunities.
Some reasons to blog is that it helps you become more confident as a social persona
It helps you build your confidence and helps you to voice your opinions. It also helps you to recognize your strengths and weaknesses. Blogging also challenges you mentally. Coming up with interesting and effective ideas can be difficult, especially coming up with them on the spot, but blogging can help improve creativity by communicating your ideas with other people. This helps you to gain knowledge on certain topics you were never exposed to.
Blogging also allows you to help others, whether it’s advice or food recipes! Blogging is very influential and can help anyone with expressing themselves.
There are many reasons to start a blog, such as being able to express your ideas and creativity online. However, there are many other beneficial and interesting reasons to start a blog.
Blogging can help you learn many new things, both about yourself and about other people. By sharing information with a community of people that share similar interests and ideas with you, you can incorporate and use those ideas in your own blog. By sharing information with others, you can also learn new things yourself, such as what foods are best to accommodate your food allergy.
Blogging can also help open up your mind to new ideas, and can help you think more clearly. It can also help you improve your writing capability, and can also benefit you to speak more coherently. By blogging, you are practicing your writing skills, and this can also help raise your writing skills to a higher standard, which can also benefit your writing ability in school. Also, by blogging both daily or casually, you can build more confidence and you can become more confident in both writing and other skills and activities.
The beauty of blogging is that it is free, so it does not cost you anything to be able to express your ideas and opinions online articulately.Blogging also challenges you to improve beyond your writing capability, which build an even bigger desire to blog.
Good luck and have fun starting your blog!
I truly agree with you Kate. You’re right about how blogging challenges you to improve. Everyday you think of a new topic to blog about.
Some of the others reasons to blog is to make a difference and talk about things that happen through out our school like talking about youth issues and how we can prevent people from smoking, drinking, and taking drugs. When we blog we have people that can give us a feedbacks and reason they think that blogging is a good idea.
Have fun blogging and hope your topics would be interesting when you blog.
One reason to blog that I can think of is to express one’s opinion on a certain topics such as social issues or world problems. However one thing that I notice with many bloggers on the internet is that they always forget to be respectful with their opinion. If i had a penny for every time I saw some radical feminist online get offended by the slightest thing and proceed to launch into the same men-hating spiel just to get waves upon waves of hate mail because she clearly didn’t think of how her opinion could offend other people, then I would have 4 cents.
What are your thoughts on the expression of opinion online?
I think blogging is a good way to express how you feel. Blogging about family issues, fighting with friends, and etc. Sometimes getting things off your chest helps. Also giving advice helps too. Reading blogs about advice can help someone that truly needs it the most. You never know what advice your going to get.
