Back to School
New grade, new teachers and maybe even a new school. September is like New Year’s Day for students. It’s a chance to start fresh, be open to new experiences and make new friends.
It’s the first day of school.
The excitement is usually high on the first day – you walk into class with new school supplies, wearing clothes laid out from the night before, and, you’re smiling (partly because you’re happy to see your friends, but mostly because you’ve got your braces off in August).
The struggle is real.
That feeling of “brand new” only lasts a few days. Very soon you’ll have a pile of assignments and two tests scheduled for the same day. Your dream of making the honour starts to fade. If you didn’t prepare to follow through with those resolutions, November can turn that smile upside down.
You got this.
The secret to success this school year is in the planning. There’s a lot you want to accomplish this semester. Sleep, eat well and set an action plan.
What are you most looking forward to this school year? How are you going to stay on track?

Starting a new school year is always exciting yet frightening. A million different things run through your head. And i agree, the feeling of “fresh start” or ” new school year new me” only lasts so long until the wheels really get turning and before you know it your knee deep in math, science and English homework and assignments. Personally I love learning new and exciting things so i am always prepared to really get going a couple weeks into the new school year. SO many things to look forward to and also try to balance within your schedule.
Personally i am most excited for the school play. It is not yet announced but i am looking forward to auditioning for it in mid-late October.
I think that staying calm in a busy semester is all about organization and time management. As teenagers we are all subject to many different things that we feel we need to do: hang out with friends and family, maybe you have a part time job and/or play a sport or have other extra curriculars and on top of it all, you have to balance the homework load of 4 subjects.
It gets exhausting and very stressful which makes staying on track hard. By prioritizing and focusing on the important stuff and taking life day by day and planning accordingly, it turns out to be a great recipe for success.
Planning out what you’re going to do is a healthy and effective way to stay on top of your priorities and responsibilities with such a busy schedule coming your way with school, sports, and your social life. Using an agenda or sticky notes is a great way keep tasks inline and plan out what needs to be done first. For example, I’m looking forward to hockey tryouts this year and I’ve planned out what assignments and homework i need to have done for that day so i’m not stressing when it comes time to skate.
I agree that using an agenda is helpful. Never in the past 2 years have i used my agenda, but this year i thought that maybe I’d motivate myself to using my agenda. Ever since i am not procrastinating much because i have a planned out schedule of when things are due so i know how much time i have to study or prepare myself.
Thanks Amrit:)
School can sometimes be considered or classified as a frustrating, stressful and difficult time. However, school is so beneficial to our growth and evolution as people in our society. School teaches us the necessary and useful abilities that are crucial in order become successful later in life, such as social skills.
When I think of school, I look forward to learning new and interesting things, both about different subjects (such as science and math) and also new things about myself. School constantly builds up my character and helps me discover who I am and who I want to become in the future. Also, I look forward every year to making new friends and developing close bonds with them, and growing friendships that I already had previously.
Staying on track gets more difficult as the year progresses, as more work load is piled on. In the past, I have had extreme difficulty staying on track, but I have now found an easy solution to get organized.
The easiest way to stay on track is to have an organized schedule to balance your social life/events with your schoolwork. Make sure to prioritize and make sure what’s most important gets done first.(For example, I usually do my math homework done first because it’s my biggest priority)
Good luck this school year and make sure to stay organized!
The first few days of school are usually very exciting. Being back in the daily routine of an average teenager, but also because you get to see some people that you haven’t seen in a while. But at some point, that excited feeling usually fades for most people. The homework starts to pile up and the tests are hitting you one after another. It is important not to take more than you can handle. Make a schedule so you are always on track with what you have to do, and so that you can organize your priorities;
:studying for test coming up
:assignments due
:most important subjects homework (Math, Science,English etc.)
:least important subjects homework (Gym, Guitar etc.)
:extra curricular activities
If you make a schedule and prioritize your needs, it will help you stay on track on your work and keep the stress down and the excited feeling to come to school up!
Sometimes school can be hard to manage but once you sit down and learn about the different types of subjects you will eventually manage how to do the work. At the same time you need to get educated in order to get a job or get into university/collage with a diploma in order to continue to get educated as a post secondary student.
I am looking forward to this school year by getting good grades and learning new things as much as i can throughout this school year.
I am going to stay on track by counting to study and hand things in on time. In order for me i’ll hand in my work/ assignments before the due date.
Good luck and i hope this year is a great success 🙂
Hey Joe! Awesome comment, keeping on track by staying punctual and studying is a great way to stay on top of your school life, I agree with the school and being hard, it is very difficult to stay on top of your studies when you have other activities going on, but with your tips i’m sure that you can get through school a lot easier.
